Sony and Microsoft gamers

Wii Fit Plus
When it launched in 2006, the Nintendo Wii was, quite literally, a game-changer. As competitors such as Sony and Microsoft went in hard on serious gamers (read: Red Bull-chugging college freshman), the Wii’s motion-sensing wands and family appeal made it a surprise success.
Now, after 5 years and with fresh competition from Microsoft’s Kinect, Nintendo will attempt to do it all over again with a new system.

According to Kotaku, the platform — possibly code-named “Project Cafe” — is due in 2012, reportedly two years sooner than Sony and Microsoft’s plotted follow-ups to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, respectively. Details are scarce, but won’t be for long: “We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held from June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles,” Nintendo said in a statement to Kotaku. Given Nintendo’s long and rewarding history, we can’t wait to see where Mario, Link and the rest head next — what do you reckon, Brand Xers? Can Nintendo keep up with the competition?
